In 2019, my wife, Mamta, and I were living in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. We decided to apply for a life insurance scheme. I was denied coverage because I had several of the tests done that did not turn out pretty well. Upon full body checkup, I got to know that my kidney function was not well. The other day I went to see my physician and had a routine physical. My blood pressure was 220/140 mm Hg, and I immediately received some medications to reduce my blood pressure and was prescribed drugs to help maintain normal blood pressure.
However, I was not diagnosed with any sort of kidney issues, neither I had any apparent signs to watch out for. It seems that my doctor missed out to look for the reason for my hypertension level. My nephrologist told me that a GFR level of less than 90 is not considered normal. However, the relevant cause to it could be determined only by doing a kidney biopsy. But since I knew of some knock-on effects related to kidney biopsy, I opted to continue to monitor my kidney function through laboratory tests instead of undergoing the biopsy.
Over time, my kidney function continued to decline, and I started feeling some of the complications in my body. My health deteriorated than ever, and I used to feel weak and dizzy all the time. Urinating became more painful, and I witnessed blood in my urine. So, I had no option other than to undergo my kidney biopsy. The biopsy results came out to be IgA nephropathy.
I tried various treatments, including heavy doses of fish oil. I made some changes to my diet in an effort to help take any additional strain off my kidneys.
